Ms. Buchanan is a beloved teacher by many students at Atherton. She teaches IB SL English, AP Lang, and English 2. Ms. Buchanan always strives to create a safe and fun learning environment for her students while teaching a variety of books.
What are some of your favorite hobbies outside of school?
“I enjoy traveling, watching my kids–both my kid who’s here and my college kids–in activities that they’re in. I enjoy reading, participating in an early-morning exercise class, and cooking. I also enjoy going out to dinner with friends.”
What are your favorite facts or best qualities about Atherton?
“I love Atherton’s diversity, [and] that there are so many different kids with so many different things that they like and qualities. I love that there are a lot of students here who want to learn and who need and want to be challenged. I don’t think Atherton has a lot of judgment. I think students really support one another.”
What is your ultimate favorite book?
“That’s a tough one. My favorite book I like to teach is probably Kite Runner. My favorite book always changes. I always have trouble naming a favorite book, but some authors I really enjoy are Ann Patchett, Barbara Kingsolver, and Frederick Backman.”
Ms. Buchanan is an amazing teacher who strives to help her students no matter what. She is so passionate to help her students learn and dig deeper into any matter of English, whether it be reading or analyzing a text.
