Ms. Purlee is a favorite teacher of many students at Atherton, mainly with the freshman. She teaches Freshman Academy, working with the freshman and preparing them for the next 4 years in high school.
When did you begin teaching at Atherton?
“About six years ago, it was the year before Covid, so in 2019.”
What are your hobbies outside of school?
“Well, being my children’s Uber. I like watching UofL basketball and I like to play games, like board games. Like Telestrations, oh my god, it’s so fun! I love being outside too.”
Why do you like teaching at Atherton?
“Because the people who are here want to learn, it’s so awesome to teach students that I feel like are so open-minded and just curious instead of not wanting to be at school. It also helps that I get to teach content that I’m passionate about and that I feel like actually matters. Then the undercurrent of acceptance here, you don’t have to try to fit in here because everybody belongs, yeah, I love it.”
Known for always being positive and having a smile on her face, Ms. Purlee creates a safe environment for every student she comes by during their first year here at Atherton. As freshmen embark on a new chapter of their life in high school, Freshman Academy is a wonderful class where Purlee teaches new students what Atherton is all about!
