The Grammys premiered their 67th annual award show at Crypto.Com arena in Los Angeles, California on February 2nd, 2025. The award show honors artists, songs, and composers every year. The recognition lengthens to a year and are then chosen by the members of the Recording Academy. The Recording Academy is an American-learned academy recognizing all musician professions. Over 10,000 people attend the arena annually and over 3,000 help set up lights, the stage, and much more. Trevor Noah, a comedian, writer, and producer, held the show for the fifth time in a row.
The red carpet starts a few hours before the award show. All attendees walk through the carpet showing off their outfits and answering questions from interviewers. Chappell Roan, who won Best New Artist of the Year, wore a 2003 dress by Jean Paul Gaultier from their spring/summer collection during the time. The ball gown features a pale and yellow tulle of illustration of late painter Edgar Degas’s “Dancer With a Bouquet.” Sticks and blue flowers are shown along the neckline and waist. Her headpiece also matched the gowns with the same colors.

Jaden Smith shocked viewers when he premiered on the red carpet wearing a castle shaped box on his head. He paired the headpiece with a Louis Vuitton suit. The all-black castle has a small cutout for the face with lettuce trim around the opening. The headpiece was custom made by the brand Abodi. Hungarian designer Dora Abodi founded the brand in 2013 inspired by her Transylvanian roots. The castle is a look-a-like of Dracula’s castle from the 1897 book . Smith’s outfit is a form of self-expression.
Ye, formally known as Kanye, and his wife, Bianca Censori, unexpectedly showed up to the Grammys. The couple first walked the red carpet then left shortly after. During the red carpet, many viewers were shocked and disturbed by Censori’s outfit. Censori arrived wearing a black fur coat, then later faced the backdrop to reveal a very mesh dress. The dress was completely sheer front and back. She then faced the audience and paparazzi shocking everyone. After they left, many thought the couple was kicked out for the distraction. It was later released that Ye didn’t have a seat so he left. A report by TMZ claimed that Censori would not face charges for “Indecency.”

Big artists like Doechii, Chappell Roan, and Benson Boone debuted their first performance at the Grammys. Doechii performed her hit song, “Denial is a River”, which hit US Billboard Hot 100 at 21, as well as “Catfish”. Chappell Roan performed her iconic song, “Pink Pony Club”. The performance kicked off with colorful rodeo clowns dancing to western-styled choreo waving hankies around. After leaving the Grammys, Roan stated the performance was a “love letter” to LA. Benson Boone performed his hit single, “Beautiful Things”, which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. Boone was wearing a bright, sparkly blue jumpsuit during the performance. He also flipped off a piano, bringing shocked faces to many people and uproars in the audience.
For the 2025 ceremony there were ninety-four categories, the same as the 2024 ceremony. Beyonce currently holds the title for the most Grammys at thirty-five. She brought home three Grammys for Album of the Year, Best Country Album, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Winning Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter made her the first black artist to win the award. Many viewers were shocked by her award as a lot of people thought her album wasn’t “true” country. Kendrick Lamar left the Grammys with five awards: Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Song and Record of the Year. All awards went to his recent hit single, “Not Like Us.”
The Weeknd returned to the Grammys to perform two songs, “Die For You” and “Timeless”, from his new album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was released on January 31st. Back in 2021, he boycotted the Grammys, accusing the Recording Academy of not being diverse enough, and claimed that his successful After Hours album didn’t receive any nominations that year although it one of the most successful albums. The CEO of the Recording Academy welcomed The Weeknd back on stage saying, “I remember waking up to the headlines that The Weeknd called out the Academy for lack of transparency in our awards. He went so far as to announce he was boycotting the Grammys,” adding on, “That made for some interesting reading over breakfast. But you know what? Criticism is okay. I heard him. I felt his conviction.” Afterward, The Weeknd made a remarkable performance with fog and lights covering the stage. Playboi Carti also performed on stage with The Weeknd singing their song, “Timeless.”
