Ms. Berlin is the Visual Performing Arts, Piano Lab, and Digital Academy teacher at Atherton. She is in her 20th year of teaching at public schools and previously taught Intro to Writing at a college.
Ms. Berlin’s favorite part of what she teaches is “seeing students come up with good ideas and develop their work.” She describes Atherton as an accepting and compassionate community with smart faculty she is honored to be a part of.
Ms Berlin spends her free time playing the sims and various video games on her Xbox. Furthermore, she spends time walking, swimming, and playing with her pets.
Ms. Berlin states that if she wasn’t a teacher, she would have become a union organizer. She is passionate about working-class people having the power to affect and improve working conditions. She is the former vice president of the teachers union and helped organize covid safety precautions.
Ms. Berlin adds that her students have taught her different perspectives on creativity, the power of thinking outside the box, and the importance of centering yourself in your work.
Her words of advice to students are: “Be true to yourself, evaluate the world around you, make future-oriented decisions, fight for your interests, values, and what you want the world to be.”
