Atherton is in a very popular area of louisville, with that comes a lot of establishments around. Many kids at the school have fun and interesting jobs while being in highschool. There’s also a large number of seniors who co-op. Co-op is when students are able to leave school early and go to their job. You turn in your paystubs to Ms. Stanton. There are also students who do a full day of school that also have a job.
Eva Grivas works at Dragon King’s Daughter. Dragon King’s Daughter is an Asian cuisine restaurant, on Bardstown Rd; they have food such as sushi, tacos, and beer. When asked what position they have, Eva answered with not just one. Switching from hostess, food runner, and busser, Eva is always on their feet.
Eva works around 15 hours a week, but does not co-op. They really enjoy working there. Their co-workers make the job easier. When working at Dragon King’s Daughter, employees tend to stay on their feet and always have something to do. But, that is one thing they love about the job.

Abbygail Milburn works at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Middletown. Nothing Bundt Cakes is a cake shop that specifically sells Bundt cakes. Her position is a GSR, which means she takes orders and works with the customers. She works 10-15 hours a week, but does not co-op. She really enjoys working there, the job is easy and she works with her sister which is a bonus!
There’s a large number of students at Atherton who work for Chick-Fil-A. We heard from Malachi Ibn-Mohammed on how it is working at Chick-Fil-A for him. His job description is Crew Member, which means he works all around the restaurant.
Mohammed says, “ I serve guests by taking, preparing, and handing out orders. As well as handling payments, keeping the restaurant clean, and taking care of any other needs a guest might have.”
Ibn-Mohammed works around 20 hours per week, and he does co-op. He really likes working at Chick-Fil-A, he feels like all his co-workers are friends. To Mohammed, not everyday is the same.

Mohammed added, “ I might bag for a little bit, or go outside to the drive thru or Cash Belt to keep cars in order and take cash payments. Every day looks different so that helps me with staying on my toes and knowing all the positions well enough to be versatile.”
Qua’neal Baines is a Parks Service Supervisor at Kentucky Kingdom. The Parks Service is the cleaning crew of the park grounds. As a supervisor, Qua’neal gives team members task help if needed, approves time sheets, and restocks. During the summer he works around 38-40 hours a week. He does not co-op since most of the job is during the summer. Last season, he was able to work during the new Christmas season of Kentucky Kingdom.
“I love my job, I love my coworkers and being able to walk around and have freedom, ” says Qua’neal.
Jobs are a great way to grow communication and responsibility skills. Atherton is also located by Bardstown Rd, which is walking distance from the school. Bardstown road gives many opportunities for jobs with growing businesses. Summer Works is another great opportunity helping young adults (16-21) find summer jobs!
