In a classic Friday night lights matchup, the Atherton Ravens took on the DuPont Manual Crimsons in the biggest game of the season.
Atherton had a lot to prove against the 5th ranked high school football team within Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA). The Ravens put up a fight until the very end, resulting in a final score of 21 – 33.
This being the first matchup the teams have had in over 20 years, the last game being played in 2004. The last time the Ravens defeated the Crimsons was in September of 2001. A lot has changed since the 2001 matchup, but the grit Atherton had never does.
“We will bounce back and run the table” Head Coach Anthony White stated to the Courier Journal after the game.
Star players Junior wide receiver Grayden Reid, (0), Sophomore receiver Davin Jones, (9), Junior kick returner and receiver Jason Briscoe (5), and Junior kicker Bruce Leisten (35) all put up points against the Crimsons.
Fans still are very optimistic for another playoff and potential championship season. After one of the largest showings at Jack T. Kleier Stadium, with every seat packed, The Ravens look forward to next week’s game against the Eastern Eagles.
