This year’s Homecoming was a rager! Atherton won against Eastern 28 – 0, and the homecoming dance was a hit! Rather you were with a date or just friends, everyone had so much fun at the tropical themed dance and football game. Let’s take a look at the highlights…
Freshman feelings: Pre/post hoco

This year’s freshmen experienced their first ever high school dance, some went with dates and others just with friends. Maggie Ruhland and Gavin Walker went together and talked about their hoco experience. “Gavin asked me to the dance at the first football game. He gave me flowers and wrote on a sign “I have weighted a long time to ask you to HOCO”. It was super sweet and I loved it” says Ruhland.
Maggie and Gavin met in middle school and have been dating for a few months. “We went to the game and the dance together, we hung out with my friends for most of the time, we had so much fun!” Ruhland adds.
Other students went with friends. Like Ian Fultineer. “I am definitely going to the dance, but not the game” he said on friday. Ian did ask someone to the dance but got rejected. “I wish I had gone with a date, but I got rejected but I’m dressing up and I’m going to look like every white dad on a vacation ever.” he laughs. Many students partic
ipated in the tropical theme and had an amazing time, especially Ian. “Hell yeah! I had an amazing time. My favorite part was when they played “Gasolina” and I was dropping it back and when I saw my crush,” Fultineer.
Senior Sentiments: Pre/post Hoco
According to seniors, upperclassmen don’t typically attend the homecoming dance. “Yeah, upperclassmen usually do go to the game, but not the dance” says Delany Peyton while being interviewed with her girlfriend India Barker. “I went to my homecoming dance my freshman year but I didn’t like it very much, but I loved going to the game,” says Peyton.

India had a different experience “I went to my freshman homecoming and I loved the game and the dance, it was a lot of fun”.
“Its kind of a right of passage for freshmen to go to the homecoming dance and game, because it’s like a new experience for them and everyone has their own opinions about it,” Peyton said.
“It’s definitely a really good experience for freshmen, because of the energy and the people who go,” India adds.
All of the students who attended HOCO had a fun and wild night of football, fantastic songs and fancy moves! Many students loved the DJ and all the fun songs he played. Most of all, students loved spending their Friday night watching an amazing game and dancing the night away. There were so many amazing aspects to the night. The fun LED lights strung all around the lower concourse, the fun glowsticks and the amazing music and people there.
All grades are so grateful for the schools and student councils’ amazing planning and supporting of our homecoming. Rather you were there as a student, parent, guest, player or coach, we all loved having a fun night with you!!
