Mr. Jentsch is one of Atherton High School’s history teachers and has been since 2022. He teaches Dual Credit US History, US History, Civics, African American History, and Dual Credit African American History.
“I started college as a biology major…but halfway through I switched to archaeology. I realized at the end, that the part of archaeology I liked was history and not digging in the dirt,” said Jentsch.
Jentsch received his undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville, a Masters in Teaching from the University of Louisville, and a second Masters in American History through an online program.
Before Jentsch began teaching at Atherton he taught at Southern for two years, Shawnee for five years, and Valley for six years. He chose to teach at Atherton in order to teach Dual Credit to students, which many other schools did not have, so he was happy to make the move. His favorite part of working at Atherton is being able to pursue his love of history and being able to learn, and talk about it, and also being able to communicate it to the younger generations, who will be the future of our society.
Outside of school Jentsch enjoys listening to audiobooks, being with his family, and playing board games. He also enjoys being outside, hiking, camping, and sometimes fishing with his four kids.
Jentsch believes that mutual respect is important and everyone should have it.
“ I really try to live by the golden rule of treating other people like you want to be treated. I think the world would be a better place if everybody led by that golden rule,” said Jentsch.
