Ms. Richey joined the Atherton family in the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year. She currently teaches Civics and Dual Credit U.S. History, as well as being the school’s coordinator for AP testing.
Richey was always interested in history growing up, with it being her most proficient subject.
“I like to understand why people do the things they do, and how that has impacted the world around us,” Richey says. “When I was a kid, I would go to the American History Museum in the Smithsonian like, three times a year because I loved it.”
After getting her degrees in political science and American studies, Richey began teaching at Marvin Ridge High in Waxhaw, North Carolina. After staying there for ten years, she and her fiance moved to Kentucky during the 2023-2024 school year. She replaced Ms. Merced, who was pregnant and taking a new job as a world history teacher, and she has been here ever since.
“I really enjoy having conversations with people, and not just teaching them things but gaining knowledge from each other,” Richey says. “My favorite part of teaching at Atherton is being able to teach dual credit. Getting to teach higher level classes is something that I enjoy doing the most.”
For fun, Richey loves to read. She is currently reading her 68th book of the year, and the number is likely to climb higher. Last year, she read 102 books! Certainly a feat for the history books.
