The Atherton Girls Volleyball 2024-25 season has recently come to an end. The 24-25 Varsity team included Lola Tinsley, Tabor Boggs, Addison Doyle, Ruth Santiestban, Olvia Goff, Payton Goodman, Alexis May, Marleigh Rainwater, and Aspen Abood.
“Our team’s biggest strength is being there for eachother and all wanting to push ourselves every game,” said Ruth Santiestban, a senior on the varsity team.
The Varsity team finished with a record of 11-14 overall and 2-3 in their district. They finished 3rd in their district tournament by winning a 4 set game against Highlands Latin.
“I think Highlands Latin was the most memorable because we had just beat them at a tournament, and now as a district game. We knew we had to win again, but after losing a set to them we really had to lock in. I remember playing really well and pushing through a long 4 set game,” Santiestban said. Atherton managed to pull out a win 3-1.
“Our senior night against Walden was the most memorable because we had so many people come out and cheer us on, which meant a lot,” said Addison Doyle, one of the varsity captains. The team’s senior night was on October 18th and was a double header with Atherton Football, which brought a huge crowd of support. Due to scheduling issues, the team’s senior night was almost not at Atherton. It was extremely important to the seniors that they got to play their last game on their home court. Because of this, they decided to put together a petition and were able to get the game rescheduled and relocated back to Atherton.
The JV team, which was led by Coach Bella Malatesta, had a record of 3-2. The Freshman team, which was led by Coach Jenna Mccauley, had a record of 1-2.
“Our team went through many ups and downs, but we were still able to lean on each other when we needed it the most,” Doyle said.
