Ms. Steege is the teacher behind all things theater at Atherton. During the day, she teaches Theater 1-4 and Stagecraft. Outside of class, she also directs after school plays every year.
“For theater classes, it’s about learning the process of putting on a play. So what an actor does, what the elements of theater are, theater history, all those kinds of things all the way up to when you’re in theater three or four, actually producing things that we take out into the community,” Ms. Steege said, “Stagecraft is about the technical elements of theater, and we do a lot of skill building work as we develop pieces we need for productions.”
According to Ms. Steege, making theater feel like a family is exceedingly important.
“I think there’s a place for everyone in theater, and that they, no matter what, can find a place for them to be a part of it. And that I really feel that theater, whether you’re in classes or part of the program or both, should feel like a family. I want people to feel safe in the space that we create,” says Ms. Steege.
