Atherton offers many electives, art class being one of them. Mrs. Gibbs teaches Art 1, which is the beginner level class that students must take to continue with art classes, Drawing and Painting 1-2, where students experiment with different drawing and painting materials, and AP Art for seniors where seniors use what they have learned in previous classes to create their portfolio. Mrs. Gibbs has been with Atherton for 13 of her 14 teaching years, her first year was at Highland middle teaching 2D Art.
Her decision to teach came from her love for creating art, and because her mother was an art teacher. Mrs. Gibbs was influenced to teach art because she learned with her mother that she enjoys the process of teaching art.
Mrs. Gibbs teaches art, however she also creates art outside of school. She has also picked up the hobby of sewing.
