If you don’t know me, I’m a fan of looking in depth at storytelling and romance genres in music. It’s Spring season, which is the awakening of love, flowers, and romantic reincarnation. If you want to look for songs for this year’s season, you should check out these indie artists that I’ve struck myself into:
“Astronaut Song” – jomm (Feat. readyaimfire27)
“But do you feel it like I do? Are you the sunlight to my moon?”
Ever since this year, Jomm’s music has resonated with me quite a bunch. I’ve heard about Jomm about 3 years ago, and his singles “Radio Silent” and “Play Pretend” was one of the first songs I’ve listened to that made me get into this type of indie pop, love-sick genre. Even if his music style seems repetitive, this type of style makes me really emotional. I listened to all of his songs over the course of high school and present, and he has never failed to let me skip any of his songs. “Astronaut Song” was released last June, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite songs that made me skip a heartbeat to. With a captivating melody, his music is easy to recognize after streaming him for just a little bit.
“TAKE A WALK” – kuala
“Over and over I keep leaving, scared of making mistakes, But please don’t shut up about us, cause I need more time to waste,”
Similar to Jomm, Kuala’s music has the same style of love songs as her independent work, yet ethical. Kuala is a self-produced and self-taught artist, making her style on her EP WAVES. “TAKE A WALK” is one of her single songs. It’s about an argument in a romantic relationship and not being happy with each other afterwards. The lyrics in the song are meant to show impatience, that they already miss their loved ones but are still upset at them and will not admit it, yet they are still waiting for a makeup.
“Glass Moon Dance” – The Vanished People
“And every constellation is just a scar, to prove the sky has loved and lost many times,”
The Vanished People are pretty well known, if you are familiar with “Castaway” and “QUEEN OF THE NIGHT”, you’ll probably like “Glass Moon Dance”. Glass Moon Dance doesn’t have a story, but you can decide your interpretation of its meaning. It’s more upbeat than the previous songs I’ve suggested, but this song still applies to its theme of romance.
“legroom” – adan diaz
“You don’t need to say a thing—no commitment, no wedding ring”
Adan Diaz has probably been the kick in the puddle for me to start listening to the romance genre of music, especially because of how catchy his music really is. “Legroom” used to be a part of a recommended playlist that was given to me, and it really caught my attention. Not only do his songs have this catchy tune, but his storytelling is also really interesting, with this song’s theme of yearning. If you’re feeling the absence of your loved one, you should definitely try listening to Adan.
