A long-awaited update is taking full swing for student athletes at Atherton High School as the school unveils its new softball field, giving the Ravens a new home for the first time in years. For years Atherton’s softball program felt like it was playing catch-up on uneven fields, traveling to borrowed space, and making do with what they have. But that changed the day the new field opened up.
For Atherton’s softball program, the impact is immediate. In past seasons, players usually competed on a borrowed field or a broken one, limiting consistency. Now, with a dedicated space for the program, athletes can train in a more structured and reliable environment.
Raelee Crain (9) had a great first impression of the field. Although she didn’t get a chance to play on the old field, she still noticed the terrible conditions it was in.
“The old field was extremely bad, the dirt was really hard and rocky, the dugouts were a danger to anyone playing because they weren’t covered fully and you could get hit easily so the new field was just such a huge improvement,” Crain said.
The field is already making a difference for the school community. Students, families, and staff have begun showing up in greater numbers, creating a more energetic atmosphere on game days.
Erika Rose Peck (10) explains how the new field has built a sense of community.
“We’re communicating more as a team, people wanna come play us instead of us going to them so we have more home games, and we have way more support than last year,” Peck said.
Beyond the players, this new space is already beginning to create new memories. Kaylee Harris (11) explains that one of her favorite memories was being tied to a team, and helping lead the team to score.
“It was in extra innings and I laid down a bunt and Izzy scored. It was after a game so we were all really excited,” Harris said.
As the season continues the Ravens currently have a winning record (17-11). The softball team is so proud to announce that they’ve surely found their new home.
