Three Atherton students will be traveling to Los Angeles at the end of May to compete in an international dance competition.
Rory Sharp, Acadia Burkhead (both 11), and Clem Robinson (9) are members of LDAZ, a k-pop cover group associated with the Louisville Dance Alliance, a dance studio located in the Highlands. After being one of 20 selected out of the 700 U.S. applicants that submitted a dance routine video, the group will be traveling to Los Angeles to compete in the K-Pop Cover Dance Festival, the largest amateur dance competition dedicated to K-pop, on May 23rd.
“It was a very last minute decision to join, and we got in, so I’m very excited,” said Burkhead.
The submission video was posted on LDAZ’s instagram page on May 1st, and has since garnered over 3,200 views.
The group’s success and ability to secure their spot in the competition can be attributed to the hard work that they’ve put in.
“We have to attend a lot of practices,” said Robinson. “So whenever we get on stage, we’re able to be professional on stage, and have a good performance.”
Sharp, Burkhead, and Robinson had all been a part of the Louisville Dance Alliance for different amounts of time before growing closer together.
“We had never really met each other before; only in small instances,” said Burkhead. “We’re super close now…it’s been really fun having dance partners as best friends.”
Even though the group would love to win big at the competition, Sharp said she’s not looking to gain anything big from the experience.
“I’m just happy to dance with my friends and have such an amazing opportunity to go somewhere like L.A,” said Sharp. “That’s enough for me.”
Make sure to wish all three dancers good luck at their competition!
