There are many varieties of music festivals in Louisville ranging from country to rock. In addition, there are many student bands and artists at Atherton. Listening to and making music is a big part of Louisville and by extension is important to the culture of Atherton.
In June of this year, the Louisville Pride Festival and Parade took place at the Waterfront. This festival had many performances, including Icona Pop, Robin S., and the extremely popular Chappell Roan. Chappell Roan recently became popular with her top chart hitting album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
“I really loved the pride festival this year and seeing Chappell Roan, it was a great concert and was amazing to see her live,” said Erica Grantz, an Atherton student who attended the festival.
There were a lot of other concerts this summer within Kentucky, including Faye Webster in Newport Kentucky and Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour in Lexington.
In addition to students experiencing local music and festivals, some students are attending them out of state.
“Over the summer I went to the San Francisco Jazz Festival, which was really cool because I got to connect with a lot of artists,” Christine Bashombana says.
As already stated, there are many bands and artists that go and have gone to Atherton. This includes The Tabs, Gaia, Skip Tracers, and more.
Levi Little (SV Skinny) is an artist at Atherton who has done multiple live performances for Atherton students and other teenagers in the area. Little’s main influences are electronic artists, and he focuses on making his songs exactly like something he would listen to.
“I would say my style is a mix of older trap music from the 2010s with a futuristic sound at the same time,” Little said.
Furthermore, Bourbon and Beyond just happened from September 19th to September 22nd at the Highland Festival grounds. Bourbon and Beyond is a local festival which was expected to have 270,000+ attendees. This year there were a lot of very popular artists who performed, including Zach Brian, The Beach Boys, and The Dave Matthews Band.
The Louder than Life festival took place from September 26th to the 29th, also at the Highland Festival Grounds. It’s a rock and heavy metal festival that has been going on since 2014. This year some bands that performed included Korn, Slipknot, and Slayer.
Whether it’s going to local music festivals and concerts or playing in a band, music always finds its way into the lives of Atherton Students.
