On Tuesday March 24th, Atherton’s tennis team opened the season, facing off against the KCD Bearcats. Although each player did not leave with a win, many are still optimistic about the season.

Cyrus Richardson (12) believes that the first match went well, and is excited for all the new players this season.
“I think it went well, especially for our first match of the season. There’s a lot of new players, so it was a good first match, I’m happy with it,” said Richardson.
Richardson is excited to see all the new faces, and is excited to help them progress their skills, and have a match to test their own.
“I’d like to get everyone to a point where they’re comfortable with scoring, and to have a match where we really have to battle it out and fight for the points,” said Richardson.
Many new players had their first match today, and even though they didn’t win, they’re still hopeful for the

season. Malia Labeste (9) joined the team this year, and is excited to gain more experience playing.
“I think my first match went really well, I was really nervous, but honestly, I did better than I expected,” said Labeste. “A goal I have for this season is to get better, and to become more comfortable with scoring.”
Max Butler (12), and George Bryant (12), both ended their nights with wins, but both of them are still getting back into the groove of things, and hoping to improve their skills even more.

“My first match of the season went alright, I was a little rusty, but I still went out there and gave it my best and I did all I could. We beat KCD today, so I’m feeling good, feeling like I got my groove back,” said Butler.
“It went pretty good, it started out a little rough, but it improved and I got 8 straight points,” said Bryant.
“I would like to improve my serve and add a little bit of topspin to my forehand,” said Butler.

“My goal for this season is to go far in the regional tournament, and to play well in every game,” said Bryant.
Atherton’s Tennis teams are looking forward to crushing their season. With one match done, they’re ready to take on their next opponents. Be sure to come out and support your Ravens at their next match on Thursday, at J-town at 3:30.
