Gardening club has begun, in which every student has the opportunity to sprout their interests in plant care. At their past club meeting (November 19) members cleaned Atherton’s greenhouse to prepare for the upcoming spring weather. By pulling weeds, relocating small animals, and clearing out old plants, the gardening team has laid the groundwork for a flourishing season.

The Gardening club motivates students to get outdoors and participate in projects rooted in sustainability, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Students are able to take leadership roles in planning, planting, and selling greens to Atherton’s community to raise environmental awareness for all.
“These projects make people understand how important it is to take care of the environment,” said president of Gardening club, Delaney Payton (11). “Just one little project can have great impacts.”
Collective gardening can showcase real, visible progress towards providing new growth to different habitats. The Gardening club is different every year, but the work is constant.

“We clean up around the school and we’re planting a lot of things that biolife really enjoys,” said Mckeyla Nguyen (10). “More people are starting to plant and join in with all the festivities and I think that is really great.”
Taking on the task of fulfilling Atherton’s greenhouse can become a blooming interest for all.
“We always plant seeds in pots and seeing them grow is just amazing to witness,” said Stefan Kourelis Fredriksson (12). “Last year, we planted seeds in February and seeing them sprout in May and grow into the plants that they become was such a fun activity.”
The Gardening club is ready to blossom throughout the seasons. The prospering team of students and countless plans for growth has embedded the club into a journey for success. They are ready to give back to mother nature and add more to her beauty.
