Atherton is introducing a new Skate Club this year! This gives students an opportunity to gather and share the common interest of skating. Regardless of experience level, students can learn how to ride, even while at school.
Chris O’Obrien, a teacher at Knight Middle School, first created the Skate Club with the hopes of giving students a new opportunity to express themselves. O’Brien has introduced the club to several different schools, with Atherton being the 9th one.
“My long term goal is to make Skate Club a sanctioned sport,” said O’Brien.
Students are excited to develop their skating skills with proper techniques while being around others who wish to do the same.
“I am going to be able to meet people around the school and practice skating with new friends,” said Benny Pettit (9).
Skate Club will provide a supportive community that provides equipment and gear. Students will have the chance to skate around the halls, gym, and outdoors one or two times a month. This club offers great exercise and ways to build your confidence and connections.
“I am here to get my skills better at skating, and maybe try new forms of it. I am here to meet new people too,” said William Reese (9).
Information and permission forms are available in room 216B. If you have your own equipment, it can also be stored there until practice times.
