In high school sports, one night of the season recognizes seniors’ hard work and dedication for their athletic career, leaving behind a bittersweet memory for the team. Atherton’s Boys basketball had their senior night on February 17th, honoring seven seniors for their commitment to Atherton’s Basketball program.
Before the game was to start against Shelby County, the team recognized Donee Sutton, Derrick Thompson, Quilshaun Baines, Jeff Johnson, James Briscoe, Keenan Tudor, and Elias Daley with their families creating a bittersweet memory that will be the highlight of high school.
Jeff Johnson (12) has been playing basketball for 12 years, but first came to Atherton his sophomore year. Since arriving, he’s left his mark on Atherton being the first player in years to surpass 1000 points, and now becoming top 5 all time scorer for the Ravens.
“I love how much of a family we’ve become by just bonding and playing together.” Says Jeff. Although Johnson is playing in college, he’s grown to love and cherish this program.
The connection between the seniors flows deeply throughout this program no matter when you joined. Elias Daley (12) has been playing basketball for 10 years but first came to Atherton his senior year. When coming to Atherton, Daley felt welcomed and noticed how much of a family the team had become.
James Briscoe (12) has been playing basketball for 4 years at Atherton.
“I love how the team is just like a big ole family. We can joke with each other but we know that by the end of the day we can always count on each other.” Briscoe said.
Keenan Tudor (12) on the other hand has been playing basketball his whole life. Tudor loves all the people he’s met while being on the team and making lasting friendships.
“I’m really going to miss seeing the guys everyday, going to practices and just overall having fun,” Tudor said.
After the seniors embark on a new adventure after high school, their dedication and legacy will live on at Atherton. Congratulations to all the seniors for their hard work to Atherton’s basketball!
