Captain of the girls basketball team, Tabor Boggs (12), reached her dream of 1,000 points.
On Tuesday, February 17th, Tabor scored her 1,000th point against Ballard at home. For her, this milestone was more than just points on a scoreboard.
“Getting to 1,000 points was a realization that goals are attainable and that all the hard work from hours of practice, club ball, dribbling in my garage paid off,” Boggs said.
She has had a passion for the sport for a long time.
“I started playing in 5th grade, but stopped and then I really started playing in 7th grade,” said Boggs.
She has played ever since and enjoys the community of the team.
“I would do anything for the girls on my team and I just love being able to experience wins with them, especially because we didn’t have much of those sophomore year,” said Boggs.
She has been playing on the Atherton Girls Basketball team since her freshman year and said when she started, 1,000 points seemed like a stretch, but she always knew it was possible.
Boggs was extremely proud of her achievement.
“I would consider it my most important accomplishment in basketball. It was my main goal for my basketball career,” said Boggs.
Avaleigh Keen (11) saw Tabor’s victory as a motivation for her to keep going.
“I was very proud of Tabor when she got her 1,000 points. Tabor always works so hard and has such a strong dedication to basketball. She inspires me in many ways and has been such a great leader and role model for me over the past 2 years, being so kind and positive throughout the entire season,” said Keen.
Leyla Taylor (12), Bogg’s co-captain, was thrilled to see her achievement.
“I was really excited for Tabor when she hit 1,000 points, it’s been a goal for a very long time for both of us and seeing her reach that goal made our senior season so much more special!” said Taylor.
Boggs showed appreciation towards her teammates for helping her reach 1,000 points, and gave credit to Layla Taylor.
“I couldn’t have done any of my points without help for my teammates, especially Layla, who was seven points away from getting her a thousand. I know that she deserves the same amount of recognition as I do for those points, because she worked just as hard as I did. She will go so far and she plans on attending college basketball too,” Boggs said.
The girls basketball team had a great season overall, with a winning record of 14-11, which is the second winning record in 20 years. The last winning record, with many of the same players, last year. Although Boggs does not plan on participating in competitive basketball beyond pickup games and possibly joining an intramural team, her love for the game will always stand strong and her achievements will always be remembered.
