Cameron Smith (12), or maybe better known as “The 11/10 Cam Curry,” is a very talented actor and student here at Atherton. Smith is best known for his acting roles in the Atherton Theater Department. But this time, he’s trying something new.
Smith had been training at GrindHouse Pro Gym when the opportunity arose for Smith to participate in a live wrestling match. He accepted this opportunity and competed against seasoned veteran OG Ugly.
This wasn’t a decision that Smith made out of the blue, but a passion he’s had for years. Though Smith has been training for a year, he has been watching wrestling for years now. He even would go watch shows at GrindHouse as a kid. It is an environment Smith has been around for a long time.
Smith also started doing wrestling because of theater. Smith credits wrestling to helping his improv, which is something very important to every actor.
“I feel like this helps a lot with improv because not every wrestling match is gonna go exactly how you want so the skill to go with the flow will help me in acting,” said Smith.
During this match, Smith had many memorable moments, including his walkout. Noah Kelly (12), also a fellow actor in Atherton’s Theater Department, said his favorite moment of the whole match was his walkout. Smith came out to a cry of cheers and boos to abruptly rip off his pants to show his sparkly bedazzled pink wrestling shorts.
Smith said that his favorite part of all of this was “probably seeing how everything I put into it is paying off and seeing people enjoy it”.
Some people might think that wrestling is boring or shouldn’t even be considered a sport. But for Smith it means the world to him. Whether it’s to help with his acting, or just to go have fun, 11/10 Cam Curry is here to stay.
