Kyle Chandler is our Academy Coach and technology coordinator here at Atherton.
Chandler got his undergraduate in a dual major of human resource management and marketing.
This is his 14th year in education, and he joined the Atherton staff in October of 2020. Previously, he worked in the event and promotions department at horseshoe casino organizing games and giveaways. After that, he spent a couple years in human resources and employment relations.
He got to his current position after working at the district and support function for JCPS middle schools. His job was to check in with the schools technology coordinators across the district. Specifically, he was at Moore middle school during the launch of “the academies of Moore.”
“I got caught up in the excitement of all of it and opportunities for kids, the way it reshaped the school and all of that,” Chandler said.
He eventually found that there was an open spot for an academy coach role, and was accepted into Atherton.
Chandler believes that while education is important, the application afterwards is just as crucial.
“I tend to be more practical and think of education as the foundation. You’ve got to have it, but beyond that, what do you do with it?”
Chandler says that the next step drives him, he loves to see the connection, especially with the rigor in Atherton’s academics.
“It’s that next step that drives me, that’s where I like to see the connections here, because there’s such great rigor with our academics.”
He enjoys being helpful when it comes to the technology aspect of his job. Adapting to the metal detectors, he tries to start the morning in a positive manner.
“Its a touch point with you guys first thing, a positive interaction right in there,” Chandler says.
One of his favorite projects was integrating the chromebooks in 2017. Chandler would give perspective of what’s happening in a building at JCPS standard department meetings. Making decisions that impact students day to day operations, he wanted to make them aware of the effect chromebooks would have.
“Its exciting to get a voice with them and be heard and to represent the school,” Chandler remembers.
Outside of school, he spends a lot of his time with his wife and five kids. He also runs marathons, running three to five days a week, often alongside Mr. Jones. Chandler attends a men’s group at Southeast Christian Church, and enjoys singing country music.
