JCPS students are returning to school tomorrow following a day of NTI, according to an announcement put out by the district this afternoon. Yesterday, JCPS called a county wide NTI day due to overnight winter weather activity. The National Weather Service reports 2-3 inches of snowfall around the Louisville Metro and a weather alert was put into place between 10 PM Monday night and 9 AM Tuesday morning. In-person classes and after school extracurriculars and athletics were cancelled for all public schools in Jefferson County, as well as the University of Louisville, which closed its facilities.
Dec. 2 is JCPS’ first day of non-traditional instruction this year, of which they are now allotted up to 10 per school year. Unlike traditional snow days, NTI days count as regular school days and do not need to be made up.
Oldham County Schools, Bullitt County Public Schools, and Shelby County Public Schools also called for NTI days on Dec. 2, where Greater Clark County Schools and New Albany Floyd County Schools chose a Synchronous eLearning day, a similar remote learning program. Louisville Catholic Schools and Spencer County Schools chose a traditional snow day.
While the upcoming week’s low temperatures may keep the snow on the trees, major roads and even most neighborhood roads have been cleared with great efficiency.
