The Atherton Choir’s Christmas Concert is this Thursday!
On December 11th, at 7pm in the auditorium, the choir will be performing their annual Christmas Concert. The concert will include many songs, with classics such as “Holly Jolly Christmas”, and meaningful songs like “When the World was at Peace”, a song remembering the Christmas gathering between enemy soldiers during World War 1.

Mendy Cumberledge, Atherton’s Choir Director, remarks how there is something for everybody.
“It’s fun, and it puts everyone in the Christmas spirit. There’s something for everybody. It will be quite entertaining,” Cumberledge said.
With all of the engaging and moving songs, Cumberledge struggles to pick out a favorite part.
“It’s so hard to pick out one favorite. There are things that are entertaining like “The Grinch”, and there are things that are beautiful like some of the pieces that the sopranos and altos are singing together. There’s something new. It’s really hard to nail down a favorite piece or a favorite part. It’s just fun watching all of the hard work that the choir has done this semester come together on stage. It’s our effort; it’s kind of our Christmas gift to the Atherton family and community, that everybody in the holiday is connected,” Cumberledge said.
When remembering all of her past choir Christmas concerts, Cumberledge’s favorite memories come from the sing-a-long.

“The sing-a-long is always fun. It’s something that we do with the audience, but the choir comes out decorated with christmas lights or headdresses, or whatever they want, and they really have fun singing songs like “Rudoph”. It’s really fun for me, since I can actually just roam the stage, and stand in the middle of them, and join in with everybody. It’s a time where everybody on stage is actually doing the same thing, and everybody’s voices are coming together. That’s just kind of cool.”
Bryce Ernst, (12), is a bass in the choir. Ernst’s favorite part of the concert is the preparation being shown.
“My favorite part is getting to rehearse with the whole choir, and really seeing how all of our practice has come together and paid off,” Ernst said.
Ernst’s favorite song in the concert is “The Grinch”, due to its classic style, and the choreography that the choir has.
“It’s a classic, and the choreography we have with it is very fun and silly, and this year especially we added a lot to it. I think you all will really enjoy it; especially compared to what we’ve done in the past,” Ernst said.
Ernst encourages people to come, due to the concert’s interactive and vast experience.
“You can expect beautiful renditions of classic melodies as well as hearing more niche songs that you wouldn’t hear too often played on the radio, and it’s also very interactive and very fun. You will feel the Christmas spirit,” Ernst said.
Cumberledge alludes to surprises, while also encouraging any available to join in on the fun.
“There is always a surprise but if I told you it wouldn’t be a surprise. Come on out, have a good time, and enjoy whatever it is that we throw at you,” said Cumberledge.
