Senior Night is a time of celebration and recognition for students that have worked hard throughout their high school athletic career. The Atherton girls basketball team celebrated their senior night on January 23, by honoring 5 seniors who have left a lasting impact on the program through their dedication.
Before the home game against Seneca, the Lady Ravens recognized Natalie Sternberg, Leyla Taylor, Tabor Boggs, Kendall Walton, and Kate Ucanake alongside their families creating an emotional and unforgettable moment.

For Kendall Walton, the night represented the end of an era. She began playing in elementary school, quit, then joined again her junior year.
“I’m sad about my senior season ending because I haven’t been on the team as long, but I’ve been having so much fun in this short time,” said Walton. She fell in love with her team and the energy they bring each practice and game.
The bond between the seniors and the team is evident no matter what game they play. Kate Ucanake has been playing basketball since she was in first grade, and has loved being with her teammates since.
“I think the team has really come together this year, the upperclassman and the underclassman bond very well and collaborate effectively,” said Ucanake.

Natalie Sternberg has been playing basketball since she was in 8th grade and loves playing with everyone and having fun.
“I’ve loved making new friendships and having a family of friends that is always there for me,” said Sternberg.
Each game these seniors play is filled with passion and determination. These seniors have drastically improved Atherton girls basketball in recent years. Not only has their shooting percentage increased but also their record as a whole. These seniors went from a 4-10 record their freshman year, to a 10-7 record this year.

Tabor Boggs has been playing basketball since she was in seventh grade. She loves the community it brings and how accepting the team is.
“I feel like we have more chemistry just by getting to know each other,” said Boggs.

Leyla Taylor has been playing basketball since she was 3 years old, but came to Atherton her junior year. She loves playing basketball and hopes to pursue it in college.
A piece of advice she has for incoming freshmen or anyone interested in playing would be to “Try something new, work your hardest, and make a bond with your teammates because they make friendships outside of basketball.”
As the seniors move forward into their new lives, their legacy will be remembered here at Atherton.
