This season marks a turning point for Atherton’s baseball team. After welcoming the new head coach this year, the team is learning to adapt and grow, with their sights set on a successful season under new leadership.

After the departure of last year’s coach, Sam Fulks has taken over the baseball program. Coach Fulks has brought new expectations and a renewed sense of motivation to his team. Players have been preparing for a season with a more disciplined coaching style that will hopefully push them towards more victories.
Jude Fulks (11) is the son to the new head coach. Fulks expressed how this new coaching position is exciting and beneficial for the team.
“He is really excited for us, and to be finishing off the year as a whole,” Fulks said. “He plans to have more difficult games instead of a “bunny schedule” for there to be more challenges.”
Prior to receiving a new head coach, the baseball team was left to persevere throughout the off season with their own guidance. Players unfold about how they gathered on their own time to get stronger and use different training utilities.
Charlie Shadt (11) said, “We started doing cardio, workouts, and general conditioning in order to prepare for the upcoming season.”
Fulks also added, “Some of us went down to clean up the field, and some went to workout at the gym.”

This season, the baseball team prioritizes being resilient, as well as having a good attitude and work ethic. Nate Sims (11) explains how the team is going to use this season to not only grow on the scoreboard, but also psychologically.
“We have the skills to take over other teams, it’s more of the mental side of the game,” said Sims.
The baseball team is ready to step into this new era of coaching and determination. While adjusting to a new coach can come with some challenges, the team remains very optimistic. As practices continue on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the team’s excitement surrounding the upcoming season continues to grow.
“Since we all had the same goal that we were all working towards, we were able to set our sights on it and work together in order to do anything we can to achieve the goal,” said Schadt.
