With the end of the school year in sight, Seniors are graduating, and that means new members of clubs. On Friday, March 27th, the BETA club had an induction for their new members and slate. The name BETA stands for the Greek letter for B, symbolizing the “B” grade range (and above) required for membership when the organization was founded, focusing on high academic achievement.
Libby Byers (10) and Stella Hardesty (10) were both inducted on Friday. Both girls are excited for the new opportunities that being in BETA will bring.
“It’s very cool to be inducted, and I feel like part of a committee. I hope to be a part of this community and make something greater of our school,” said Byers.
“I think it’s cool that we actually get to be like a part of something that is giving way to the community,” said Hardesty.
Many new members hope to get all their service hours, and they hope to earn leadership roles within the club.
“I’d like to get all my service hours for the year and then I’d like to continue throughout junior and senior year and possibly get a higher officer role like vice president, or something higher up,” said Byers.
BETA Club’s new slate already has plans for next year, with service leader Ariana Burroughs (11), leading the way.
“I am the Service Leader, so I initiate the ideas for what our service projects are, and I kind of form the plan of how we’re gonna get either people there,” said Burroughs.
“So we’re hoping to do a used toy drive and also raise money for food gift cards because there’s a lot of foster children right now who are currently living in offices and they don’t have anyone.”
BETA Club is looking forward to next year, with service projects being planned, they hope to do lots of good for the Atherton community.
