On Monday, February 23rd, students in Mr. Boros’s Advanced Studio Production class visited Hatfield Media to tour their studio space, and get a real world look into a local commercial media company.
The students toured through Hatfield’s graphic and web design room, recording studio, and their shooting studio. Students had the chance to talk to Emmy-winning Isaac Harrison, one of Hatfield’s videographers. Students had the chance to walk through different lighting setups and video tactics, along with making a short film in 15 minutes.

Ximena Marquez-Cordova (12) is in Boros’s level 4 class, & was very interested in learning the different lighting techniques used in professional commercial work.
“The hands-on experience and seeing the lighting change from set to camera real time was so much more engaging than just watching a video in class or reading about it in an assignment,” said Marquez-Cordova.
Many media arts students get the chance to do real work through the pathway with business partners. and seeing what the professional companies do differently than what the students do in class is eye opening. Many students are interested in what careers they could pursue after high school.
“A lot of us are interested in pursuing a career in media and production and seeing how different real world Studio work is compared to what we do in school for AOA is a reality check,” said Marquez-Cordova.

The tour of Hatfield was influential to many students to see what creativity, collaboration and what production goes into each different project that these students might see one day.
“I think it was really important to see the jump between our scaled down work versus full scale commercial production from the projects to the lights everything is different,” said Giovani Gaughan (12).
Each student that attended the trip gained new knowledge that they can implement in their classes, and many of them enjoyed simply having the opportunity to visit a local media company.
