Krafting Kindness is a club all about using a creative outlet to give back to our community. This year, Delaney Payton (11) founded the club after coming across a chapter of “Arts4Hearts” on instagram.
The organization’s mission immediately stood out to her. At first, she planned on simply joining one of their existing chapters, but after doing more research, she realized she had the opportunity to do something similar yet different at school.
“I liked their message, and liked what they were doing, so I wanted to do the same thing at school,” Payton explains. However as she looked deeper into the “Arts4Hearts” program, she noticed the structure seemed limited.
“I didn’t like how strict the program was,” she said. “I wanted it to be more than just a chapter of something. I wanted it to be its own thing that does more than just bracelets. I wanted to expand it so it could have a bigger impact in our community.”
Shortly after the second meeting, Delaney held a third meeting, getting the clubs input in changing the name and picking club representatives. Krafting Kindness was born as a student-led club focused on spreading positivity through hands-on crafts. The name itself reflects its mission: using homemade crafts to show kindness.
So far, the club has focused on making uplifting bracelets for children’s hospitals and nursing homes, which are all small gestures meant to remind people that they are seen, loved, and supported. But this is only the beginning, in the future, the members plan to expand the club to include handwritten cards for seniors and other creative acts of service.
The club meets bi-weekly on Mondays, giving students a relaxed and welcoming environment to create and talk together toward something meaningful. Payton hopes that as the club grows, so will its reach. She hopes to allow students to use creativity not just as a distraction, but as a way to uplift the community around them.
The next meeting will be November 24th, come join and help make a difference for service hours.
